Living Room Afghan Pattern

As promised, here is the pattern for the afghan. It's pretty easy if you know how to crochet. If you don't, and you want to learn how, there's TONS of good videos on You Tube, so go buy some yarn and a hook, and get goin'! Then come back, and use this pattern to make an afghan!
Row 1: ch 122

Row 2: hdc in 3rd st from hook, hdc in every st to end of the row.

Row 3: ch. 1, sc in first st., skip 2 st's, then make 5 dc's in next st, skip 2 st's, sc in next st, repeat until end of the row

Row 4: ch. 3, then do 2 dc in first st. skip 2 st's,  5 dc's in next st, skip 2 st's, sc in next st, skip 2 st's, repeat until last st, then do 3 dc's in last st.

Repeat rows 3 and 4 until it's as long as you want it.

Once it's as long as you want it, finish it off with a row of hdc in each st.

Then, add the scalloped trimming, and you're done!

I love it! I want to attempt to make one.
How do you add the scalloped trimming at the end?

What size hook did you use? I really like your afghan.

Love the afghan - what size hook did you use and what are the dimensions? Thanks!

Anyone know what size hook????
Thanks

I would use whatever size hook your type of yarn recommends. It should say on the label. Weight 4 usually recommends a size G or H, while weight 5 may need an I, J or even K.

This is a great afghan but I'm having trouble making sense of row 4.

Does the repeat include the first 3 ch? ie is it:

Row 4: *ch. 3, then do 2 dc in first st. skip 2 st's, 5 dc's in next st, skip 2 st's, sc in next st, skip 2 st's*, repeat until last st, then do 3 dc's in last st.

OR

Row 4: ch. 3, then do *2 dc in first st. skip 2 st's, 5 dc's in next st, skip 2 st's, sc in next st, skip 2 st's*, repeat until last st, then do 3 dc's in last st.

Or something else? I've tried it both ways and neither seems to line up properly.

Thank you!

Hi I am interested in making the blanket larger. What multiple should I use for my initial chain. Also I need clarification on row 4 and the repeat. Thank you for your work and I wait to hear from you.

Hey everyone, Sarah here...

It seems there's a bit of a blip in the pattern somewhere. I am going to look it over this weekend and make the necessary changes. Also many have asked what size hook I used. I know WHICH hook I used, but we recently moved, and I forgot what size was printed on it. I need to find the hook in all my craft storage, so I can let you know. Sorry to keep you all hanging for so long. We've moved in the last couple of months, and I'm full term with baby #4, so life has been a little hectic to say the least! Thanks for taking a look at my blog!

Hello! When you post the update to the pattern corrections and the size hook, I would love to be on the email list to receive it! Would like to start this project! THank you so much!

I am an amateur dont know what dc st's etc. Is there any way you can or anyone explain it so I can learn, its so pretty. My email is jamiletoledo@gmail.com is there maybe a video?

Hi Sarah. I'm new here and also a beginner, trying to find my way around crochet speak!! ;-) Like the others, I'm lining up for updates on your gorgeous Living Room Afghan pattern. Am interested in the yarn you used, the hook size you used, and of course...clarification on Row 4 and repeat. It would be handy to also know the multiple for initial chain to increase the size of the Afghan. Thanks heaps.

If bubs has arrived, a hearty congratulations from Down Under! God's richest blessings.

I would assume it is a worsted weight yarn and a G or H hook.
For the beginners, dc is a double crochet. There are many websites that will explain pattern abbreviations and show how to do the stitches.

I just started working on this lovely blanket today.
There's idd a mistake in the pattern, at row 4.
I think the pattern should say something like:

Row 4: ch. 3, then do 2 dc in first st. *skip 2 st's, sc in next st, skip 2 st's, 5 dc's in next st*, repeat ** until last st, then do not 5 but 3 dc's in last st.

Works fine for me :)

I think what is missing is the single st between the first dble sts and the 5 double sts. That puts the 5 dbles in the valley between the 5 doubles of your last row.

After working on this blanket I agree with MrsLovefool about the correction. However I have one more to make. It only works for me if I chain 123 instead of 122. The pattern seems to be (multiples of 6) +3. Then each row ends up being 121 stitches. Hope this helps everyone! :)

I think if you want to add some lenght, it's multiple 8 + 2. Am I right?

How much yarn? Anyone know? 40 oz or so?

Shana Bianca Munn said...

So about that hook size and yarn? Also do you recall how many skiens you needed?

I just discovered your living room afghan pattern and would love to make one. After reading the comments, I am wondering is this the corrected pattern? If not can you tell me where I can find it? Also could you give me instructions on how to increase the size? Thanks so much. Linda

I have made your afghan twice now for babies. I love the way it works up so easily. Thanks for the pattern.

Hi, there are many places that explain crochet abbreviations in depth and some are on Pinterest or available for free in ebook form to Kindle or Nook. However, to answer your question st=stitch dc=double crochet. Hope that helps.

Hi, thanks for that beautiful afghan. For my part, I began each of the rows (3 and 4) with ch.3 and 2 dc in the second stitch and I ended each of these rows with 1 sc.
and it worked very well for me. Hope it does for everyone.

What is the multiple of this pattern?

Does anyone know if the pattern has ever been corrected? Also I read above multiples of 6 +3 and then 8 +2. I am quite interested in making this lovely afghan.

I would like to try making your afghan. Have corrections been made to the pattern. Also, what yarn do you recommend & how much should it take. Hook size? How do you make the border? Thank you.

Thank you for editing row 4 and sharing!

Thanks!

I think you're correct. I increased it by multiples of 6(+3) to a starting chain count of 135,and it worked perfectly for me.

Good Afternon,

On this snowy very cold afternoon, it seems very apt to sit wrapped up in front of the TV hook in hand and get started on your Living Room Afgan, however, like others have asked, you omit the very basics such as what size hoot and yarn weight.

I guess we could hazard a guess, but I'm sure we'd all prefer to do it justice first time out, rather than be frustrated by the outcome because sufficient time and effort was not given over to the materials required.

I hope you only see this post as a 'Please help' we love your work cry...
I look forward to hearing from you...

Unknown said...

Thank you for clarifying. I thought the same thing.

Love your afghan, but waiting to find out about the error in row 4 everyone's talking about. Also, would like to know what multiple to use to make it larger. Waiting anxiously for your reply. Can't wait to get started on it!

I have done an afghan with an almost identical stitch pattern. I believe the Row 4 repeat should start with the "skip 2 st, 5 dc", etc. The end result should be alternating shells throughout the afghan. Each 5dc will be done in the SC of the previous row. Each SC will be done in the middle DC of the 5dc shell from the previous row. I hope this helps.

This is the way I make a scalloped edging:
Scalloped Edging
Row 1: attach yarn, ch 1, sc around evenly, slip st into first ch 1
Row 2: Chain 3, dc around, slip st into top of beginning chain.
Row 3: without chaining skip the first dc and work 5 dc into the next stitch, skip 1 stitch, slip st into next dc, skip the next stitch, and crochet 5 dc in the next stitch

Please put me on the list for corrections, plus stitch count to increase the size. Thank you for the lovely pattern.
All the best to you and your family on Baby #4. Moving and being is not an easy task~~~Without being full term and having three children to care for~~~You are a very brave woman by today's standards. Am hoping you have a lot of help from your husband.
My mom had four in five and a half years~~~Not by choice~~~Mother Nature played a large part in it. The first month she stayed at home with her newborns. She nursed all of us for a year. Next to no help from my dad. I would've went stark-raving MAD!!!

I just discovered this pattern, and it is lovely indeed, but was baffled on row 4. Thank you for your clarification - this makes much more sense!

You will need to chain multiple of 6+2 stitches. This is the correct amount. I used a size 4mm needle.
